Location. Where to shoot? It’s a question that comes up all the time in my line of work. No matter if I’m shooting engagement photos, a corporate headshot or a growing family, my approach is always the same. Don’t worry about what everybody else is doing, find a place or an activity that has meaning to you. And, seriously, don’t overcomplicate it! Let’s remember that the main content of these photos is you, not the background because a pretty background is just a pretty background. Pretty is not the name of the game, the name of the game is legacy. Make photos that will resonate for years and “pretty” will just fall into place.

So, meet the Tingle-Start family. They chose a Mont Tremblant family session because of a love for the area and the simple beauty of a winter backdrop. It doesn’t hurt that Dad’s a die hard skier, only making the location more relevant. I’m thinking that this same session may happen next year, but on the magic carpet with April doing her first laps on skis. OK, I’m getting ahead of myself. Point is, it’s a place that has meaning to this family and surprise surprise, look how comfortable and natural they look in the photos. They feel good, the backdrop is clean and simple…result, pretty photos with a solid backbone.

Where will you do your family photo session?
