There’s something about photographing nicely dressed people in front of crumbling old buildings. You’d think that old and new wouldn’t jive. But, they do jive! I love the texture of old limestone riddled with overgrowing vines and boarded up windows. I love peeling paint, broken glass and piles of previously demolished walkways. Maybe it’s a nod to history, maybe it’s the way the fresh, loving couple pops right out of the screen in contrast. Maybe it’s both? Maybe it’s something I have yet to understand.
Whatever the answer is, all I know is that I like the way it looks and as I walk around with couples creating compositions in this space, especially on engagement shoots, it gives them some insight into how my wild and wacky artist brain works! Here’s a lovely set of images I photographed with Carolyne and Jonah as we toured one of my favourite local zones at golden hour. We chatted, found cool spots, and best of all they laughed at my jokes while we made photos together which made their “say cheese” smiles turn in to real, authentic smiles.
