Frontenac Club Wedding | Alex + Ciaran

2020 has been a heck of year for all factors in life, not to mention the wild impact it has had on weddings. But ya know, this Frontenac Club wedding was so insanely special despite the restrictions! …maybe even partly because of them? Like most weddings that I’ve had the pleasure of documenting this year, this one was small. There weren’t many guests, but those who were in attendance were all in. The guest list was particularly truncated by the restrictions on international travel, keeping Ciaran’s family in Ireland from being able to attend. Bummer. Total bummer. But, fear not, technology to the rescue!

The presence of cell phones at weddings has increased drastically over the past few years with the camera technology largely surpassing that of consumer level cameras. The phones are out, taking pictures, sharing pictures and showing the shots in real time to other guests. I think it’s great, but I’ve always been on the fence about photographing reactions that people have while viewing photos on people’s phones. They’re gimmies. I’m always going to get a laugh or a smile and so I usually default to challenging myself to photograph more intimate human interaction. Well, with covid weddings, that all goes out the window. These mini computers in everyone’s pockets allows anyone, anywhere to be a part of the celebration in an interactive way, even across international waters!

So, what I’m getting at here is that you’re about to see more photos than usual including phones! This beautiful ceremony on the gorgeous back patio at the Frontenac Club was being live streamed on Zoom so that Ciaran’s family could be “there.” Same with the speeches, same with Alex’s Grands who couldn’t travel either. Obviously they’d have preferred having them all there in person, but kinda neat that they could be included and it was such a joy to photograph the raw emotion that came from all of the zooming going on.
