Cottage country in the summer in Ontario, ‘nuf said right? Yeah, but I’ll say more! Jenna and Kevin flew in from the West coast to host their family and friends at Elmhirst Resort for their wedding and made it so much more than just a wedding. It was a celebration that lasted a few days over the course of the weekend, taking advantage of the amazing landscape in the area and the hot, hot weather we are experiencing this summer. The before and after parties went down at Jenna’s parents place on the lake and it’s also where the wedding party did their preps. Of all the places for me to start my work day, a lakeside cottage is pretty high on my list!
This one’s a pretty special one for me. Not only is this very much the type of wedding I love to shoot, the groom also happens to be my cousin. It was an honour to create some work for my cousin and his bride and I even got to do it with only minimal heckling from my aunts and uncles looking over my shoulder all day! I don’t normally feel watched while I shoot, but I did on this one because I was part of the congregation and I’m pretty sure that my relatives were wondering what the heck I was doing most of the day. You know, laying on the ground, climbing things for angles, on my knees amidst the guests during speeches not to mention being a hot, sweaty mess for most of the day. I work hard for my couples to give them something truly unique that represents their day in a way that most people don’t see it. I hope that Kevin and Jenna see it that way and I’m excited to show the fruits of my labour to my family, proving to them that I’m not crazy for doing all the things I do while I shoot!
Elmhirst Resort is a pretty awesome place to get married. Beautifully kept gardens, massive green space, numerous docks for photo ops, cottages on-site for guests, rustic yet stylish dining space and a killer outdoor ceremony space, overlooking the lake complete with a float plane exit! A float plane exit! So yeah, we got some lovely portraits around the grounds and most of the photo “to do list” was done before the ceremony, so once they got back from their post vows float plane tour, they got right to enjoying cocktail hour which blended seamlessly into dinner and the eventual party.
